Females deposit their eggs near the water or on the surface of the water. The larval and pupal stages develop in water.
Mosquitoes that emerge from the water stages mate, after which the females
seek to suck blood to obtain the proteins necessary for egg development.
The male mosquito does not suck blood, but can feed on the nectar of plants.
Mosquitoes are vectors of several diseases that affect human beings, such as:
- malaria
- yellow fever
- dengue fever
- chikungunya
- zika virus disease
